Industry-oriented DS in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

The Yerevan State university will launch an industry-oriented Doctoral School in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. we should note, that industrial doctorates have been developed in western countries in recent years to enable better university-industry connections, as well as support in building knowledge and a research-based economy. The Doctoral School will be developed in cooperation with industry representatives on the bases of YSU AI Lab, as well as on the bases of the infrastructure and human resources of the cooperating institutions. In parallel with the structural and content reforms, the university will be working to diversify the funding sources of the doctoral school and ensure better financial resources for quality research, as well as high scholarships.

DS in Special and Inclusive Education

The second doctoral (DS) initiated by the Armenian state Pedagogical University which is in the process of development in the framework of the Armdoct project. The research priorities within the Special and Inclusive Education DS are defined, but are not limited to the following areas: Special education and neuroscience; Special education and kinesiotherapy​; Special education and psychology​; Special education and (neuro-, psycho-)linguistics​; Special education and assistive technology development​. The DS will be aimed at boosting interdisciplinary and interinstitutional research and collaboration in the field of special and inclusive education. The main features are (i) the core requirement for selecting research topics will be interdisciplinarity; (ii) in case of a need, a co-supervisor or advisor will be assigned from national or international partner institutions; (iii) among the core requirements for admission will be the design of a coherent research plan.

DS in Applied Linguistics and Communication Studies

BSU Doctoral School introduces the interdisciplinary field of Linguistics and Communication Studies. BSU Doctoral School introduces the interdisciplinary field of Applied Linguistics and Communication Studies with its pilot program in “Computational Linguistics”. Given the strong foundations of practice-based language and linguistic education, the professional potential, and the international network of professional connections, Armenia’s first interdisciplinary Doctoral School in the field of Humanities and Social Sciences intends to develop interdisciplinary research programs in the field of Psycholinguistics, Sociolinguistics, Cognitive Linguistics, Cultural Linguistics, Virtual Tourism, and Digital Humanities. To address the demand for increasing the effectiveness of multilingual translation of Armenian in the conditions of global integration, the doctoral school, in cooperation with domestic and foreign universities, IT research and production organizations, plans to implement the following doctoral educational programs: Computational Linguistics, Corpus Linguistics, Human and machine translation studies.

Industrial PhD Program in Technical Sciences

The Industrial PhD Program will soon be launched at the National Polytechnic University of Armenia (NPUA), within the framework of the ARMDOCT Project, the main feature of which is the organization and implementation of PhD education under the conditions of mutually beneficial, bilateral and long-term “university-industry” cooperation, with the implementation of applied research, targeted training and implementation of research results in practice. The candidates of the Industrial PhD program, in accordance with the new curriculum, will be admitted and annually certified in accordance with special requirements, the educational and research components of the program will be distributed among the cooperating parties in line with the specifics of the research topic, two scientific supervisors (co-supervisors) will be appointed as necessary, additional financial support opportunities and other special conditions will be applied. The curriculum of the Industrial PhD program will be developed and implemented in close cooperation with the leading industrial partners of the NPUA, widely applying the best experience of a number of European partner universities, providing the opportunity of undertaking part of the studies at these universities.
